The Nelson Region
Nelson’s famously beautiful landscape of snow capped mountains, clear rivers and lakes, rolling hills and broad beaches is accessible within a 90 minute drive from the Bishopdale Estate.
There is the world famous Abel Tasman National Park, renowned for its pristine beaches, sea kayaking, bush walking, and sailing. We highly recommend walking on the coastal track and we can arrange a day excursion for you.
There is also the Nelson Lakes National Park and the Kahurangi National Park where you’ll find The Heaphy Track, designated as one of New Zealand’s Great Walks.
Nelson has some of the best fly fishing in the world for wild brown trout. Ask us to book a guide.
The region is known for its music, art, potters, glass blowers, fibre artists and wood carvers. Worth experiencing is the Suter Gallery, the Nelson Arts Festival, the Nelson School of Music, and the WOW World of Wearable Art museum. There is an exciting cafe culture and many fine restaurants where local seafood, wine and boutique beers are featured. A must-experience is the Nelson Saturday Market, a farmers/artisan market which many consider the best in New Zealand.
Other activities include golf, horse riding, skydiving, vineyard tours, rock climbing, helicopter and fixed wing scenic flights, arts and crafts tours, garden tours and mountain biking.
